On August 3, 2026, United States Senator Ron Wyden submitted a letter to Jerry Ross from Botanic Tonics, located in Broken Arrow, OK, to confront him about a false statement he allowed to go up on his company's website on their homepage. It read, "ANNOUNCEMENT: FDA reinforces safety of natural leaf kratom." He said this was a false statement and went on to tell him why. See below for this very important letter.
Kratom should be classified as a schedule 1 opiate, and several states have already done so. We at Healthy Minds for Better Lives, Inc. were happy to see this senator confirm that the FDA has not approved of nor reinforced the safety of this dangerous drug that unfortunately is easily accessible to the public at many gas station convenience stores.
In fact, he states that "there are no prescription or over-the-counter drug products containing kratom or its known alkaloids that are legally on the market in the U.S. Kratom is not appropriate for use as a dietary supplement. FDA has warned consumers not to use kratom because of the risk of serious adverse events, including liver toxicity, seizures, and substance use disorder." Newborns experienced withdrawal signs following prolonged exposure to kratom prior to birth.
This is not a safe drug, and we are here to warn about its use. It is very addicting. If you need help with psychological issues, please see a counselor, a pastor, a psychiatrist, or your family provider to get the help you need. Places that sell these teas, and gas stations that sell this with the false advertising of a "feel good relief herbal supplement," are deceiving buyers into thinking they are doing something healthy and helpful for themselves when in fact they are taking in a dangerous and potentially lethal substance. Just say no to kratom.
